Safety acronyms on electric-bike listings can be confusing. UL 2849, UL 2271, UL 2272, and UN 38.3 cover different products and risks, so they should never be treated as interchangeable.

Dakeya transparency note: Dakeya does not currently claim UL 2849 certification for the complete NOVA X1, DA03, or TS60 e-bike electrical systems. The documentation currently available to us for the applicable 60V 25Ah battery sample consists of UN 38.3 transport testing, a maritime transport identification report, and an MSDS. These documents do not constitute UL 2849 or UL 2271 certification.

What UL 2849 covers

UL 2849 is a standard for the electrical systems of e-bikes. A genuine certification applies to the complete covered system and should be supported by a verifiable listing, certificate, file number, model scope, and certificate holder.

What UL 2271 and UL 2272 cover

  • UL 2271: batteries for use in light electric vehicle applications.
  • UL 2272: electrical systems for personal e-mobility devices such as hoverboards and certain rideable devices; it is not a substitute for UL 2849 on an e-bike.

What UN 38.3 covers

UN 38.3 addresses lithium-battery transport testing. It includes transport-related tests such as altitude simulation, thermal testing, vibration, shock, external short circuit, impact or crush, overcharge, and forced discharge, as applicable. Passing UN 38.3 means the submitted battery sample completed the required transport test sequence; it does not certify a complete e-bike for riding or charging use.

How to verify a safety claim

  1. Ask for the exact standard number.
  2. Request the certificate or official listing.
  3. Confirm the certificate holder and covered model.
  4. Check whether the claim covers a battery, charger, component, or complete electrical system.
  5. Do not accept vague phrases such as 鈥淯L compliant鈥?without verifiable evidence.

Dakeya battery documentation

The available reports describe a 60V 25Ah, 1500Wh, 16S5P lithium-ion battery sample using EVE INR21700-50E cells:

  • UN 38.3 report: S03A26010655U00101
  • Maritime transport identification: S03A26010655H00101
  • MSDS: S03A26010655M00101

The reports apply to the submitted battery sample and do not name a complete NOVA X1 or DA03 e-bike model. Production-battery matching must be confirmed before associating the documents with a specific unit.

Safe ownership still matters

Use the approved charger, inspect the battery and cable before charging, avoid water damage and extreme temperatures, and stop using any battery that is swollen, punctured, unusually hot, or physically damaged.
